Vancouver Westside School Catchments
Vancouver’s west side includes neighbourhoods located to the west of Ontario Street. Well-established neighbourhoods dot this area of the city with some of the most exclusive neighbourhoods, as well as downtown townhomes, apartments and condominiums all feeding into the large Vancouver School District.
This huge district encompasses 18 secondary schools and 92 elementary schools. There are 16 elementary school annexes and seven adult education centres. In all, a total of 26,000 secondary students and 29,000 elementary students attend schools within the Vancouver School District, many of them residing on Vancouver’s west side.
While some schools on the east side still have plenty of room for new students, a number of schools on the west side are almost at capacity, with very few spots available for additional incoming students to attend. The district includes full-day kindergarten for its youngest students, plus special education, French Immersion programs, as well as Montessori and gifted programs for students to take advantage of.
In addition to providing for the younger students, Vancouver’s west side is also home to a large number of higher educational options. The University of British Columbia is here, along with the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Simon Fraser University, Langara College and Vancouver Community College.
